Chapter 2 - Betrayal

As Dexter enters his cryo-pod and starts getting himself ready to enter cryo-sleep in preparation for the journey across the galaxy and as his pod slowly starts to freeze and the screen becomes foggy

As the glass fogs up and ice crystals start to form - Cain's silhouette slowly comes closer to the glass until Dexter notices, but can no longer move as his body has already entered a catatonic state due to the cryo-sleep sequence beginning. Cain hesitantly begins his monologue:

"I'm sorry boss - but it has to be this way, I knew you wouldn't have listened to reason - you and your damned honour!"

"You don't realize the potential of the technology you were so willing to hand over! For the sake of what? A mercenary contract? Do you even realize what they could do with access to infinite energy? I know what this technology is capable of, you might be the weapons expert boss, but you forget one thing - it's me who is the brains of this operation, I am the one who understands how to best make use of this technology, The Paradox Singularity - I finally have my hands on it."

"I won't kill you, boss, you may see this as a betrayal - but in truth, I want to prove you wrong, I will utilize this singularity and I will turn our simple backwater planet into a technological utopia. I will name it after the technology that made it possible, and one day when your cryo-pod finally wakes you up you will awaken to a whole new world - a world of my making! Surprised? I've taken the liberty to hack your cryo-pod so that it will put you to sleep for the next 100 years, you did always prefer to let me program it after all - look forward to the city I will build....Boss....No, from now on it's Dexter, next time we meet...I won't be the same ape as before" Dexter's cryo-sleep sequence finalizes and he fully freezes over.

Cain looks on for a few more moments then walks out of the room with the Paradox singularity in hand as it shines and hums with untapped power - he wonders at the endless possibilities ahead of him as he leaves the past behind.

A single tear flows as he takes one last look behind him at Dexter's betrayed expression frozen in that state for the next 100 years - Despite his regret, he marches onwards.
